Frequently asked questions
Everything patients often ask before their first visit. If your question is not here, call 087 962 7573 and Fiona will be happy to help.
Treatments
The title Physiotherapist alone is not evidence of a formal qualification. A Chartered Physiotherapist is a specialised member of the healthcare team, recognised by the medical professions and by the Department of Health. The initials MISCP mean Fiona is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, the professional body for physiotherapists in Ireland. Chartered physiotherapists have the high level of education, knowledge and experience needed to deliver a high quality, effective service.
Every treatment starts with a thorough assessment of your complaint, followed by a professional, scientific approach to diagnosis. Treatment is hands-on and may include manual therapy, specific soft tissue treatment, joint mobilisation or manipulation where indicated, dry needling and clinical Pilates. You will always leave with rehabilitation exercises and clear advice on returning to your activity, work, sport or hobby.
Dry needling is a soft tissue treatment used for muscle pain and muscular dysfunction. Fine needles are inserted into trigger points to encourage the muscle to relax. Fiona is trained in the Travell & Simons approach and uses dry needling as one part of a wider treatment and rehabilitation plan.
Clinical Pilates is used here as rehabilitation, not just exercise. It begins with an evaluation of how your core muscles function, followed by specific functional rehabilitation of those muscles. Fiona is APPI trained and DMA trained, and uses Pilates in the treatment of back, neck and shoulder pain.
